BranchesThere are two types of groups that help make up UKSEDS - branches and affiliates. These are similar in nature, the only difference being that a branch is set up specifically to be a UKSEDS branch, an affiliate is an existing organisation with whom we work. Branches and affiliates represent the vital core of the UKSEDS infrastructure. Secondary school and university branches are the local coordinators for their own programming, recruiting efforts, excursions and fund raising. Branch independence is a vital element in UKSEDS structure because it allows UKSEDS members full opportunity to gain important management experience. A member from each branch can sit at UKSEDS meetings and report upon their progress. Communication between branches is done both through the National magazine or via email. UKSEDS aims to set up branches of UKSEDS at any educational institute, company, or club/society that also has a keen interest in space. UKSEDS acts as an umbrella organisation for its branches, providing assistance, advice, contacts and support for their instigation and maintenance. It also provides facilities and opportunities that a branch-level SEDS would find difficult to obtain itself, e.g. national events, careers and opportunities information, as well as links with other SEDS branches across the country and overseas. You can see our current branch list and links. |
